Mary Lark
BA in Art and Education – Marygrove College, Maitre de Table, Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs, Commandeur du Bontemps Medoc & Graves.
The soul of The Lark restaurant is Jim Lark’s wife, Mary. Her life-long love of art shows in every aspect of The Lark. From the flowers that are lovingly arranged throughout the room and on the tables, to the art displayed on the walls, Mary is the driving force behind the charm and beauty of the restaurant. Each summer The Lark’s garden enchants guests, thanks to Mary’s diligent attention to every detail of the walled-in space. Mary can be found tending to the garden most every morning as well as at the Oakland Market, where she frequents local growers of plants and herbs. The restaurant’s famed theme dinners are made doubly special by Mary’s artistic touches and her skill at transforming the restaurant to the monthly theme. Mary gave up her pottery to tend to The Lark and donated her high fire kiln to Detroit’s own Pewabic Pottery. Mary joins husband Jim in the evening greeting guests and making them feel at home in her cherished space.
